The 72nd Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best in film and television for 2014, were presented on January 11, 2015 and with it came the start of another red carpet season. Surprisingly, this year’s Golden Globes red carpet provided us with more of a vintage fashion and style.

The 1st Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best achievements in 1943 filmmaking, were held late in January 1944. Despite the hardships of WWII, fashion in the 1940s still ruled as women everywhere embraced a more utilitarian look and Hollywood’s Golden Age stars.

1st Golden Globe Award – Audrey Hepburn – The critics and the public alike were captivated by Audrey and her performance in Roman Holiday and she was feted with multiple awards. Miss H was the first actress to win an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for a single performance. This beautiful film set Miss H up for a series of great upcoming performances on the American screen.

We’re taking a look back at the icons who paved the way for the red carpet style setters of today.

Here are some highlights from the 1940s era from the key looks of the decade.
